THE EXHIBITION
The exhibition “Unexpected Dali” is composed by exhibits from Collection Kesauri of original works made by Salvador Dali : lithographs, ceramics, works in bronze, silver, gold. The exhibition highlights the major key aspects of work of the greatest artist of our time – Salvador Dali.
To understand Dali, it should put the fundamental principle that he was an intellectual artist. His painting is it primarily to illustrate his theories and ideas. It was important for him to not represent what we see but what we feel, think, probably without realizing it.
The aim of the exhibition is to help the public to see and understand how Dali materializes his views thanks to his special artistic language in the form of images, which often take an intangible aspect, but clearly are felt by spectator. Beyond what the eye sees is always a wide range of something unspeakable, but much more important than what we see.
This puzzle and mystery attracts and forces them to think about the fundamental questions of life. Creativity of Dali is more to “think”, “imaginate” rather than “see.”
Today, Dali is the most prominent representative of surrealism in art. Paranoiac-critical method becomes his way of thinking and self-realization in art. “My whole ambition in the pictorial plan is to materialize with the most imperialist fury of precision images of concrete irrationality” (S. Dali). Dali loved to explain the meaning of his work, but … not too deep into the details … “If you find that this is too simple, do not hesitate to tell me, I would be happy to complicate it little be …” .
Dali’s creativity, as well as any work of a genius, is relevant today, and his next thought: “I think we are now in the Middle Ages, but the day will come Renaissance” – is becoming more present in the context of growth of spirituality lack and depersonalization of man in the modern world. Dali wrote: “Over the centuries, Leonardo da Vinci and me, we are reaching out to each other” we also – we should reach out to our contemporary, who, through his art, makes us think, trying to change our world to become better.
After a number of detailed introductions to artists and their period, the exhibition is divided into seven thematic sections:
Section 1 – Portfolio “Man’s professions”
The series “Man’s professions” is composed of 11 subjects, painted by Salvador dali in the years 1970-71. Maestro Dali did not create these works on comission or to order, thus his spirit and his multi-faceted creativity were not restricted to any predeterminated direction.
He used symbols and coloring with the very exact meanings of the countryside with which he was familiar. These, therefore, are less countryside by general public not familiar with this particular topography.
Later, in 1979, this series “Man’s professions” was authorized for all the eleven originals to be used for an original producing in form of serigraphy on gold and silver. Only the silver ones were ever made and even they – partially.
Section 2 – Portfolio “Les Amours de Cassandre”
In 1967 Dali was commissioned by the publisher Pierre Argillet to create a series of etchings to accompany the poems of Ronsard. For Dali the dreamlike imagery found in the poetry of Ronsard opened the way for him to express his ideas of fantasy and the unconscious mind through the working of themes such as love, death, the passing of time and the cycle of nature. Each etching is signed by Dali by blindstamp.
Section 3 – Portfolio “Tricorne”
Salvador Dali created this magnificent series of 20 lithographs based on the novel and the ballet “Tricorne” in 1959. Each of lithograph represented by him is the culmination of his artistic creativity. Lithographs are made in a way requiring prints of each color individually, which provides the perfect color clarity.
Section 4 – Other original works of Salvador Dali
Exhibition shows different original works of Salvador Dali as tapestries, serigraphs on silk, lithographs, post cards designed by the master or even original designer works as Circular Jigsaw Puzzle which he specially created for Springbok Edition in New York. Are also presented portfolios and series of Salvador Dali’s original works : “The Old Man and the Sea”, “Hommage a Meissonier”, “Wall Calendar 1956 for Hans E. Bahr”, “Wall Calendar 1965 for Manifattura Ceramica Pozzi”.
